Student Attendance:
- It is an expectation at Claremont College that students attend all classes, agree to complete assignment work and abide by the rules of the campus.
- Success at college is closely linked to good attendance. Students are expected to attend all classes and complete work for all subjects in which they are enrolled, including Home Group. Subject teachers check and record attendance for every lesson.
- Parents and carers play an important role in supporting their child’s education, including through Years 11 and 12. Text messages (SMS) are sent each day to inform parents and carers if their son or daughter misses a class.
- If students are absent from class, they are missing important subject work. This will affect their final assessments.
- If absences occur without a valid explanation, the Home Group teacher or senior staff member may contact parents or carers to discuss any problems the student may be having and aim to put in place measures to improve attendance.
- Exemptions for absences are granted for legitimate purposes as listed: illness (a medical certificate is required after 5 days of absences), death in the family, participation in state sporting, academic or cultural events, VET work placement, college excursions and activities
- Students may also be able to access exemptions for personal reasons, depending on circumstances. Exemptions will not be granted for excuses such as missing the bus or sleeping in. These absences are noted as ‘unauthorised’ in the students’ records.
